You might have noticed a popular Facebook live feed from the International Space Station (ISS) today, I’m afraid you’ve been duped. No matter what they said, the footage in the video is not "live".
The Facebook page of the ISS showed no live content, NASA didn’t announce any spacewalk, and the footage, which has been watched by millions of people, is actually from previous missions.
Viral USA shared a “live” video that shows an American astronaut (visible in the first 30 seconds) performing a spacewalk. And Unilad’s “live” video is actually cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergei Ryazanski's Expedition 38 spacewalk from 2013, as confirmed by Mashable, who contacted NASA, who themselves confirmed that there was no extravehicular activity happening today.
The "live" video and the 2013 spacewalk look eerily similar.
If you are interested in an actual live feed from the International Space Station, you can go directly to NASA's website at any time or click on the livestream video below. As the ISS orbits our planet every 90 minutes, the external camera will be in darkness for about half of the time, although it is possible to see the lights from cities and even, if you're lucky, aurorae.
