My Favorite Weekend of the Year is Right Around the Corner

Last summer, we sat in the barn and listened to Sharon Morgan read from her upcoming book manuscript while the wind battered the doors and thunder crashed in the distance. By the time she finished reading, a cool breeze came down over the mountains, coating the fields in something like hope. We stood at the windows and watched the thinnest sliver of sunset flare out in the west.

On a different night, a warm evening faded into the sound of crickets and cicadas. The cool mornings were ushered in by the rooster crowing, and the sound of bees moving from here to there. During afternoon break, I sat on the porch with Andi and Christie and Kelly and Laura and so many others, dreaming about books we wanted to write, remembering the ones that changed us.

This year, Billy Coffey will be reading from his newest book. Maile and I will have Poppy along with us, introducing her to the wonders of God’s Whisper Farm. The goats and the dogs and the chickens will all be there again.

Will you join us this year, from June 23rd – 25th, for a few days of quiet, a few days of writing, a few days spent with kindred, creative souls? No competition, no frenetic conference-pace – only a few days meant to give you space to explore your own writing life, where you’ve been and where you’d like to go.

Find out more HERE. (Early bird price ends May 31st.)

If you're a blogger and interested in helping me out, please reply to this email to join the launch team for The Day the Angels Fell and receive your free advance reader copy (digital). All I ask in return is a blog post about the book, your honest review of the book online (Amazon, B&N, somewhere like that) and your help in spreading the word when the book comes out on September 5th.

If you're a writer, consider joining Andi Cumbo, Kelly Chripczuk, and me for a writers' retreat at God's Whisper Farm in Radiant, Virginia. It's always a wonderful time to step back for a moment and think about your writing life, hearing from others on the journey. Plus, this year, Billy Coffey will be doing a reading. Early Bird pricing is available for one more week. Check out details HERE.
I started giving people rides through Uber and Lyft about six months ago, and I've been writing out some of the stories of the people I've met along the way. You can check out those stories over at my Facebook page, "Rideshare Confessional." If you enjoy the stories, take a moment to like the page.
Thanks!
Mother's Day wouldn't be complete without a quick ice cream stop at Penny's in Lancaster, on Prince Street.
