My Favorite Weekend of the Year is Right Around the Corner
Last summer, we sat in the barn and listened to Sharon Morgan read from her upcoming book manuscript while the wind battered the doors and thunder crashed in the distance. By the time she finished reading, a cool breeze came down over the mountains, coating the fields in something like hope. We stood at the windows and watched the thinnest sliver of sunset flare out in the west.
On a different night, a warm evening faded into the sound of crickets and cicadas. The cool mornings were ushered in by the rooster crowing, and the sound of bees moving from here to there. During afternoon break, I sat on the porch with Andi and Christie and Kelly and Laura and so many others, dreaming about books we wanted to write, remembering the ones that changed us.
This year, Billy Coffey will be reading from his newest book. Maile and I will have Poppy along with us, introducing her to the wonders of God’s Whisper Farm. The goats and the dogs and the chickens will all be there again.
Will you join us this year, from June 23 rd – 25 th, for a few days of quiet, a few days of writing, a few days spent with kindred, creative souls? No competition, no frenetic conference-pace – only a few days meant to give you space to explore your own writing life, where you’ve been and where you’d like to go.
