The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Tuesday, March 2, 2015, was yet another great episode, with host Jimmy Fallon chatting with his guests, Ansel Elgort from the movie Insurgent, and actress Judi Dench, who stars in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The musical guest of the Tonight Show was GZA, featuring Tom Morello.
Jimmy Fallon talked about what a hot audience he had tonight on the Tonight Show, and they gave him a standing ovation. Then, he did his monologue, joking about current news stories like another scandal about Hillary Clinton, using her own private email account to conduct official business. Fallon also mentioned the painting of Bill Clinton that the artist included a shadow of Monica’s dress in.
Jimmy Fallon mentioned that in the Ukraine, Vladimir Putin’s approval rating is 86 percent. He also said that Sylvester Stallone had to break up a brawl on the set of his upcoming Rocky movie. Jimmy Fallon asked a person pretending to be Stallone questions, and the impersonator mumbled through the answers, so he could not really be heard.
“Ryan Seacrest celebrated his 40th birthday, but he celebrated it two months after his actual birthday because he was so busy.” A member of The Roots said that he had “committed a social faux pas.” He asked Fallon to come up with other faux pas examples, which he did.
“Boston is on the track to break official snowfall records,” Jimmy Fallon said. People had put out stuff like laundry baskets, shopping carts, and other objects to save parking spaces that they had shoveled out. A news reporter said that they would have to be removed.
The Roots played Jimmy Fallon to his desk. Fallon showed a book that one of the staff writers wrote, called Fuds. Then, he said tomorrow, Danny DeVito and Artie Lange will be on, and Hozier will be a musical guest on Thursday. Jimmy Fallon said that tonight’s guests would be Dame Judi Dench and Ansel Elgort. GZA (pronounced Jiza) would be on, featuring Tom Morello.
After that, Jimmy Fallon looked at the Pros & Cons of Watching Empire. Pro: It’s about a black family with a lot of gold records. Con: Half of the country sees it as a blue family with a lot of black records. Pro: One of the main characters is named ‘Cookie.’ Con: Or, as Chris Christie put it, ‘I’m in.’ Pro: Getting to see which brother is worthy enough to take over the Empire. Con: Knowing in real life, we’ll have to settle for Jeb.”
When the Tonight Show came back after a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon did a comedy bit where real kids sent in real letters. One kid wondered “How did Questlove got his comb stuck in his hair?” Jimmy Fallon assured her that Questlove did not have his comb stuck in his hair, and Questlove took the comb out to demonstrate.
Another girl said that she was selling cookies and her dad could deliver some to him, “but don’t order a whole lot, because my dad doesn’t like to haul a lot of crap to his office.” Yet another was from a third grader, and suggested that Jimmy Fallon should dress up like Mario and play a game with Mark Wahlbert (not Wahlberg). Yet another said “If you read this letter, my mom said I would get a dog.”
Finally, a letter from another kid said Jimmy Fallon should get up on his desk and dance. If he did not do it, “the audience should all stand up and chant ‘You’re not cool,’ until he does.” The audience then all stood up and chanted “You’re not cool,” until Jimmy Fallon got up on his desk and began to dance. Then, more commercials ensued.
When the Tonight Show came back on, Jimmy Fallon introduced his first guest of the evening, Dame Judi Dench, who stars in the upcoming movie The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Jimmy Fallon asked her about being in the James Bond movies. He also asked if she had read the Bond books. She said she had not read them, but she was a big fan of the movies, like From Russia With Love.
Jimmy Fallon mentioned about her having gone to India, and asked if she had any memories about it and the movie to share. Judi told him her family would tell people to “not ask her about India, because she will probably tell you.” Dench added that over 70 percent of the original crew were also in the sequel, including Bill Nye.
Dame Judi Dench related the story of when she rode on the back of a motorcycle in the first movie, and she does it again in the second one. Dench said she made tapestry cushions that are “frightfully rude.” Then, Jimmy Fallon introduced a clip from the movie. It looks great, and Jimmy Fallon said “it ends with a Ballywood dance.” Fallon had The Roots play a Ballywood-style song, as the Tonight Show headed to more commercials.
The Roots played the song Urgent as Ansel Elgort was introduced and walked to his seat. Jimmy Fallon called him “the biggest movie star ever.” Elgort said “I don’t think that’s right.”
“You brought your mom to the Oscars?” Jimmy Fallon asked.
“Yes, I did. I had to give the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and they are foreign names. The names are written phonetically, but there are four names on each card.” Elgort brought some examples of the cards to show Fallon. He said “I hoped that Guardians of the Galaxy would not win, because there were four names I could not pronounce.” He lucked out, as the names of the winners were all easy to pronounce.
Ansel said he introduced her to Steve Carell and she did not know who he was. At a party later, Bruce Willis came up and Elgort said his mom asked who he was, and he said “I’m Bruce.” She asked him what he did, and he said “I’m an actor.” Elgort told Fallon that his mom said “My son’s an actor, too.”
Jimmy Fallon asked Ansel about the movie, Insurgent. He got into the plot, describing it, and Fallon said “Don’t give it all away.” Elgort said he would not do that, but then kept talking about the plot, until Jimmy Fallon had a clip from the movie that he showed. Insurgent looks like it will be a Must See flick, especially for everybody who is a fan of the books and has seen the first movie in the franchise.
“Our next guest is one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, singing The Mexican, featuring Tom Morello.” The song sound uber cool, combining rap music with Spanish guitar playing, and a really terrific female singer. The electric guitar player jammed out. It was one of the coolest, most original rap songs that has come out in a long time. GZA even included some extremely impressive breakdance moves in the performance.

Also, the musical guest of the night, GZA, featuring Tom Morello, put on a stellar performance rapping the song The Mexican. For some reason, the song will not be included on GZA’s upcoming album, Dark Matter, that he has been working on for two years.
