Navarro Crossing to bring duplex condominiums to Seguin, Texas
Seguin, Texas population is booming! Seguin's population is expected to reach
30, 675 by the year 2020. Zip code demographics and Guadalupe county continue to grow quickly as well, with population numbers expected to reach 60,758 and 198,893 in 2020, respectively. Several housing projects are currently in development to meet the diverse demands of our growing community.

One such development is Navarro Crossing. Navarro Crossing is a new duplex condominium development by K&S Development. The project will be built in the Navarro ISD school district, on Hwy 123 next to Glass Chalk. Upon completion, Navarro Crossing will have a total of 58 units/29 duplexes. Each unit will be three bedroom, two bath with a garage and privacy fence.

Navarro Crossing will feature higher end units that people can own. While the majority of homes in the Navarro ISD district feature large acre+ lots, Navarro Crossing will bring a different style of home to the area. According to the project developer, Navarro Crossing will be ideal for those who prefer a smaller lot and the opportunity to have someone else take care of the yard and all the maintenance outside.

The project will feature two different layouts. The subdivision concept is that each duplex will have a unique feel, with a common architectural theme throughout. The project supports local contractors and business owners. For example, Onyx Creations will provide the granite and tile for the project. Onyx Creations has been in business in Seguin for 14 years.

Navarro Crossing will be completed in phases. The c
onstruction time period is expected to start in late second quarter 2015/third quarter of 2015. They are hoping to have the first occupants move in before summer of 2016. Stay tuned for more!

With a little TLC, restoration and remodeling, the Matthies House's transformation into the Tavern on the Creek restaurant is almost complete. With views over looking Walnut Springs Park, at 320 West Nolte Street, the restaurant will celebrate its soft opening on March 9 and grand opening on March 16. The restaurant will feature refined classic American food with a focus on freshness and seasonality.

"Our project is nearing completion," Steph Morris, project coordinator, said. "We're currently working on the final details of the build out and are also in the hiring phase. We've had a lot of good applicants and we're proud of the way the team is shaping up."

The restaurant's atmosphere highlights many historic and local elements.

"I would call the atmosphere of Tavern on the Creek a warm and inviting one," Morris said. "We kept as much of the structure's original charm as we possibly could and added to that in a very fitting and tasteful way. We're really proud at the way it all came together."

Some historic highlights include the restaurant's flooring, bar top and wait area.

"We were really happy with the success of restoring the original wood flooring, which is a mix of pine and oak," Morris said. "Considering the shape it was in and the different types of flooring that had been installed on top of it

over the years, it's exciting to see it restored to its natural beauty. Our bar top was constructed out of reclaimed longleaf pine, which was salvaged from an old church outside of Yoakum, Texas. It's the same church that is now part of the display at the Texas Agricultural Education and Heritage Center. We have two restored church pews in our wait area that were salvaged from an old church outside of Houston, Texas."

The project has come together through local contractors, subcontractors and craftsmen.

"Our general contractor is Danny Solis of Solis Building Specialties here in Seguin, Morris said. "And we've utilized local subcontractors and craftsmen as much as possible. We've had a good crew working on this project and we're proud to showcase their work."

Tavern on the Creek is a chef driven restaurant with a seasonally based, locally sourced menu.

"Chef Paul Schroeder adds new and tasty twists to classic dishes that everyone will recognize," Morris. "We're proud to say that we're getting as much of our product as possible from local farms and ranches. Our bar will feature 11, locally crafted beers on tap and great wine from local vineyards and beyond. We will also have a lemon ginger kombucha on tap."

The restaurant's soft opening will be held on March 9.

"We're looking forward to introducing ourselves to the community and showcasing Chef Paul's culinary style," Morris said. "Having a 'soft opening' is a dress rehearsal of sorts. It allows time for our staff to develop and for us to work out any kinks along the way so we're better prepared for our grand opening. We'll encourage feedback from everyone attending our soft opening and will use that feedback to get to know what our guest's expectations are and what we need to do to meet or exceed those expectations going forward."

The grand opening will be March 16. Lunch will be served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner will be served Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information call: 830-433-4695 or visit:  www.tavernonthecreek.com.
