What is The Fourth of July?
July Fourth or Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States
During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author was finally approved on July 4, 1776.
So here we are.
It’s that time of year again – have you planned your July 4 celebrations? For some, BBQs and parades are on this weekend’s list. For others, baseball, hot dogs and spectacular firework displays may be part of the agenda. But sadly, some may take the celebration too far and get injured or pulled over due to driving impaired.
Take the Sober Driver’s Pledge
Taking The Sober Driver’s Pledge ensures your family and friends will get home safely. By taking this Pledge you are taking responsibility for you when alcohol is present. It’s a full-time plan for preventing alcohol-related accidents. Knowing who’s driving ahead of time erases any awkward “you shouldn’t drive home” discussions.
After pledging, your BBQ worries can instead focus on grilling techniques or charcoal supplies – and that’s a good thing.
From all of us at DMG Insurance & Financial services have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
Sincerely,
David Ginsberg, CFP, ChFC
