MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning of Sunday's 9-1 win over East Central as a part of a double-header split with the Tigers. ECU won the series three games to one with a 5-2 win in Sunday's finale and two wins on Saturday.

UAM's eight-run inning in the first game featured a pinch-hit grand slam homerun to left field from senior Briana Daugherty, her first homerun of the season and second of her career. UAM's other runs in the inning came on an RBI groundout from senior Lacy Blanchard, a two-run single from senior Sydney Tipton and a bases-loaded walk by sophomore Allison Stipes.

The Tigers (16-11, 12-6 Great American Conference) ended the shutout bid with a solo homerun from Taylor Davis in the top of the fourth.

The Blossoms (17-10, 9-7 GAC) finalized the first game scoring in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from freshman Breanna Sanders. UAM held ECU scoreless in the fifth for the team's second run-rule victory of the season.

Junior Katie Slaughter (9-3) earned the win in complete-game fashion, giving up just one run on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

In the finale, the Tigers took an early lead with two-run singles from Lacy Williams-Wenholm and Peyton Watson. ECU scored its fifth run of the game in the second inning on an RBI single from Jordynn VanPelt.

The Blossoms broke up ECU pitcher Marissa Shaffer's no-hit bid in the fourth with a solo homerun by junior Holly Wilmarth and later an RBI double by Blanchard. Shaffer (6-5) ended up earning the complete-game win after allowing those two runs off a total of four hits.

Freshman pitcher Alyson Finnigan turned in her longest and best performance of the season after being called on in relief in the top of the first inning. She ended up allowing just one run off five hits with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Blossoms are back in action this Tuesday, March 31 on the road against Delta State for a non-conference double-header starting at 2 p.m.
