The Perfect Fit

We all have busy lives - moving through life at warp speed.  It is from that mode that I lost connection with our “voice of Caroline”, actress/model Lauren Hutton.  Recently we were able to reconnect and Lauren is as fully engaged with beauty, boldness and belief in Headhunt Revisited as she ever was.  In a lovely, long conversation I heard her words of admiration for “The Great Caroline”, as Lauren calls her.  “The fact that Caroline and Margaret, two young women who dared to be different and traveled to Melanesia in a time when it was not proper to do so, should be celebrated.  Too few women are acknowledged for their accomplishments.”  Lauren has offered to recorded more voice-over for the full length film!  Her raspy sound is unmistakable!
My very own copy of Lauren’s book about her life and career.  Note the autograph thanking me for including her in Headhunt Revisited and “The Great Caroline”.
Lauren’s story reinforces that she is the perfect fit for the voice of Caroline. Both women have a sense of adventure, the undeniable drive to see the world and the desire to learn about other cultures.  In an interview, Lauren stated "I became a model to see the world, to make enough money to travel and experience other cultures."  Caroline did much the same.  She modeled for Charles Dana Gibson and other noted artists, not for the glamour, but for the chance to learn her art skills from the best.  Lauren has appeared on 28 covers of Vogue Magazine - Caroline appeared on the cover of Ladies Home Journal and in advertising.  The similarities are striking.

Lauren’s achievements have given her the opportunity to travel and learn about the Bushman of the Kalahari, the nomadic Masai in Kenya and the Huli Wigmen in Papua New Guinea.  It’s been a long time since her first experience in Papua New Guinea.
Pages scanned from Lauren’s book “Big” that tells of her visit to Papua New Guinea in 1982.
At age 70, Lauren is still an adventurous woman.  Scuba diving is one of her favorite activities. That is how I originally met Lauren.  We are sisters in the Women Divers Hall of Fame.  Lauren travels to wonderful locations with a mutual friend (and fabulous underwater photographer) Tanya Burnett.  So when is she going back to Melanesia?  Next fall with Tanya to dive the rich waters of Kimbe Bay then to the Highlands to experience, once again, the magic of the mountain territory and the Huli Wigmen.
We’ve all been reconnecting in many ways - and it’s wonderful!
