Charges: Armed robbery, Calamvale

Police have charged two men and two teenage boys following a series of events that began in Calamvale overnight.

It will be alleged that just before midnight the four males arrived at a convenience store on the corner of Gowan and Compton Roads in a Mitsubishi Outlander stolen from Sunnybank Hills earlier yesterday evening.

Two of the males allegedly entered the store and demanded money from the attendant while armed with a sledge hammer and a shovel.
The male attendant complied and the pair left the store with a sum of cash, allegedly stealing the attendant’s Honda sedan to leave the scene.

Then, around 1am this morning, police sighted the Honda in Inala. A pursuit ensued with the assistance of the Polair Two helicopter tracking the vehicle.

Police deployed tyre deflation devices on Ipswich Road, Annerley, causing the vehicle to come to a stop in Laura Street, Tarragindi where the group of four attempted to flee the scene on-foot.

Police were able to apprehend all four offenders, including one of the teenage boys who was located by the Dog Squad.

An 18-year-old Inala man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 17-year-old Inala man was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of burglary and armed robbery in company. Both men are due to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court tomorrow.

A 16-year-old boy from Acacia Ridge was also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

And a 16-year-old boy from Calamvale was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of burglary and armed robbery in company.
The 16-year-old’s will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
