FDNY battles 3-alarm fire in Astoria

A three-alarm fire broke out in a six-story residential building in Astoria just after 11 a.m. Saturday, according to the FDNY.

The blaze started on the fourth floor and spread to the upper floors at 31-23 Crescent St.

At 12:19 p.m., it went to a third alarm. A total of 138 firefighters were needed to bring the fire under control in less than an hour later.

The FDNY reported that that nine firefighters had minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals. One civilian had a minor injury but refused medical attention at the scene.
