Star Trek Online Players Pay Tribute To Leonard Nimoy With In-Game Memorial

In honor of Leonard Nimoy, whose death at the age of 83 was announced yesterday, players of the massively multiplayer online game Star Trek Online, have gathered in an in-game memorial on the homeworld of the character that Nimoy was famous for portraying.

Players shared their accounts of the event on Reddit, noting that there were more than 1,000 players who gathered on Spock's planet of Vulcan to honor Nimoy.

Cryptic Studios, the developer of the game, announced the permanent memorial. "I want to once again express my heartfelt condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Leonard Nimoy," Cryptic Studios Executive Producer Stephen Ricossa said in a post to the game's official forums. "Everyone at Cryptic Studios was saddened to hear of his passing and we want to make sure we never forget the cultural impact of the man or the character he played. To that end, the Star Trek Online team will implement a standing in-game memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy this Thursday March 5th with our regular weekly maintenance."
