Burgess confessed that she was not a good dancer while she was growing up, but “the best thing you can do to become a good dancer is to let your guard down and go for it.”

She said that dancers should not worry about being judged by their moves, or hold back. “I need to see you working hard and that you are okay with not getting it right all the time.”

For Burgess mistakes are merely learning curves. “If someone tripped and fell I would scream ‘yay, good job. Now you know what you need to do to not fall again’.”

Danceweb Studios Owner Craig Bullock said that the dance academy was privileged to host Burgess, and in her workshops she helped to develop many young dancers’ skills. “She is inspiring the community,” he added.
