Dave Matthews Band to donate proceeds from North Carolina concert to pro-equality organizations

Bruce Springsteen, Maroon 5, Pearl Jam, and Ringo Starr have all canceled concerts in North Carolina to protest the state passing HB2, a law dictating that transgender people must use the public restroom of the sex they were assigned at birth. Dave Matthews Band will keep their May 27 date in Charlotte, but they’re donating a portion of the proceeds to five organizations that work to defend equality: American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Lambda Legal, ACLU of North Carolina, Equality NC, and Time Out Youth.

Dave Matthews Band join other acts like Jimmy Buffett and Gregg Allman who’ve also decided to keep their North Carolina shows despite their opinions on the legislation. “I know that North Carolina is a state full of good folks and loyal fans, many of whom are angry about and feel misrepresented by this action,” he said in a statement. “My band and I will continue to play our show as scheduled there [April 13], and hope that our music unites people in this challenging time.”

Along with Dave Matthews Band, big names like Cyndi Lauper and Joel McHale also promised to donate profits from their visits to applicable organizations.
