Petie's Emergency Vet Bills

Donation protected
This is Petie, or Peter George when he's naughty (which he is often).  He found me 14 years ago while he was with a rescue inside a Petco.  I went in just to get kitty litter for my other cat, came out with a new best friend.  He's been diagnosed with kidney disease, which is very common in older kitties.  We've believe that the disease was exacerbated by his bad teeth (get thee to a vet dental specialist if you have never).  We planned the dental procedure with a very skilled and compassionate specialist, but during the blood work for that we noticed he was suffering from anemia.  Petie was stable until a bout with severe GI upset and the wrong medication set him down a bad path.  He is currently in the hospital where he's getting treatment for his anemia, including a blood transfusion and fluids.  Once we can regulate these things, we believe he can get strong enough for the dental procedure and be with us a long time.

I hear what you're saying ... Wendi, he's a little old guy and kidney disease isn't curable!  That's true.  But, I have been through kidney disease with two other kitties.  One thing I know for sure is that they will let you know when they are ready to go and veterinarians don't sugar coat their condition.  Petie has been seen by our general practitioner, a holistic vet, three internists, two ER docs, a cardiologist and a dental specialist (many of the specialists work out of the same specialty hospital).  Their collective opinion is that he needs treatment, but that he has not reached the end of the road and that he can be with us for a long time.  I didn't intend to seek such elaborate care for him outside of the dental procedure, but he was in need and there was no time to worry about finances.  I will not put him through rounds of extreme care, but we don't believe we are there yet.  It all happened too fast to really process or make any other decisions, but, now we are in a financial crisis.

I call Petie the Goodwill Ambassador of Cats.  If you do not like cats, he will change your mind.  He is on a mission to make you love him and his brethren.  He loves to be carried, and insists upon it, so I'm often found trying to do dishes or laundry with one arm and a cat on my shoulder.  He loves to sit on the dishwasher (yes, there is always cat hair in our food) and try to steal spinach right out of the refrigerator.  Even now in the hospital he is happy, alert, purring, and affectionate.  I've seen him tackle this disease like a BOSS.

We were able to get a Care credit for some of his expenses, but only a fraction.  This money will both go to that Care credit debt as well as the bills we are accumulating at the vet hospital (it's a speciality hospital, so that includes the cardiologist, the internist, the emergency department, dental specialist and home care).  I know this is a lot of money, but I hope you will be generous.  I don't have much family, really, and Petie (and his little "brother" Skeeter) are my family.  Petie is truly my best friend, and if you could meet him now you'd see that he's got a great chance.  He might also steal your wallet and your food, but that's a story for another day.
