Police arrested a man Tuesday in connection to a weekend stabbing incident.

Woodland resident Dennis Rose, 57, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of attempted homicide and battery causing great bodily injury — both felonies.

Rose was taken into custody by Woodland Police Department detectives without incident after further investigation revealed his role in the stabbing on Saturday afternoon, according to Sgt. Brett Hancock.

Around 12:57 p.m., Woodland Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Fifth Street for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, in this case a knife.

“The reporting party told the Yolo Emergency Communications Agency dispatcher that her boyfriend, later identified as 34-year-old Woodland resident Jeff Burkhart, had been stabbed by her father, later identified as 57-year-old Woodland resident Rose,” Hancock reported Saturday. “When officers arrived on scene, they located Burkhart in the front yard of the residence suffering from multiple stab wounds.”

Burkhart was cleared from the immediate area and given emergency medical treatment by Woodland Fire Department and AMR personnel, Hancock added. He was later transported via ground ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. At the time of this release Burkhart was in surgery and expected to survive his injuries.

“Moments after the officers’ arrival on Fifth Street, Rose came out of the residence seeking help for stab wounds he received during the altercation with Burkhart,” Hancock stated. “Rose was given emergency medical treatment by Woodland Fire Department and AMR personnel.”

Rose was also transported via ground ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. At the time of this release Rose was expected to survive his injuries as well.

A third stabbing victim was located inside the residence and was identified as 63-year-old Woodland resident Tom Withrow, Hancock reported. At the time of this release, Withrow’s involvement in this incident was still being determined.

Withrow was given emergency medical treatment by Woodland Fire Department and AMR personnel. He was later transported via ground ambulance to Woodland Memorial Hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
