NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday did not invite party veteran LK
Advani to an RSS-backed event where it honoured
those who went to jail during the Indira Gandhi-imposed Emergency in 1975. BJP president Amit Shah and other party leaders were invited for the function held at Delhi's Mavalankar Hall. Advani, however, was not present, according to CNN IBN.

Emergency can happen again in India.
"I do not say that the political leadership is not mature. But I don't have the confidence that it (Emergency) cannot happen again," Advani said in an interview to Indian Express.

At the function on Thursday, BJP chief Amit Shah hailed the BJP's resistance of the Emergency 40 years ago. Advani was one of the prominent opposition leaders jailed by the Congress government then.
In April, BJP's 35th foundation day celebrations, the first after its historic victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, was marred by allegations by circles sympathetic to L K Advani that the veteran was not invited for the function.
