NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – George Augstell is living out his dreams.

The 27-year-old has down syndrome and will own and operate a new coffee shop in Niagara Falls.

“I’m so happy right now,” Augstell said.

It will be called Uncle Bill’s Coffee Shop, in honor of his late uncle who served as a Niagara Falls Police Officer. “He was the greatest uncle, and the greatest police officer of Niagara Falls.”

In order to make this dream a reality, George has been working with Cary Newman, an employment specialist at Rivershore. Together they meet with vendors and picks out the products he wants to serve.

“We go out into the community. We observe different coffee shops. We price different items. It’s everything. He’s starting his own business,” Newman,

The shop will be part of a new health center for people with special needs. Paychex founder, Tom Golisano donated $3.5 million to the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

The donation has helped fund the new center’s construction.

“It’s going to be an amazing thing for the community and I’m so proud that my son is going to be such a nice part of it” Carol Gee, George’s mother said.

George also plans to employ others with developmental disabilities.

Construction on the new Tenth Street location should be done next year.

Also, this isn’t where the dream ends for George. He plans to open more stores after this.
