One of the most honest songs I've ever written, circa early 2012. What a blessing to have had the opportunity to record this.
lyrics
Waiting for daybreak to come calling
Stricken with heartache, couldn't stop myself from falling
Shouldn't be surprised that I'm lying on the floor
I know the day is coming
When I'm pounding on a quiet door
How many times do I ask for the obvious truth
Still it begs an answer
Can I hold on, hold on to you?
Words fit right behind the smile that made me a fool
You seem to doubt the chance that
I can hold on, hold on to you
Can I hold on to you?
Covered by night time, hear me praying
My own indecision led me to the words I'm saying
Shouldn't be surprised that I'm left here on my knees
The darkness makes more sorrow
Cause tomorrow may just set you free
How many times do I ask for the obvious truth
Still it begs an answer
Can I hold on, hold on to you?
Words fit right behind the smile that made me a fool
You seem to doubt the chance that
I can hold on, hold on to you
Can I hold on to you?
For many expectations, I clearly failed
Just created more frustration
To this cross I end up nailed
Loneliness will be all mine
Safe to suffer
Did it to myself
I'll be the one who's left to wonder
Shouldn't be surprised when this rope slips from my hands
To the hell below I'm screaming
I swear I'll be a better man
How many times do I ask for the obvious truth
Still it begs an answer
Can I hold on, hold on to you?
Words fit right behind the smile that made me a fool
You seem to doubt the chance that
I can hold on, hold on to you
Can I hold on to you?
