A few weeks ago, I got some very unexpected good news: ADAO will receive a significant financial award as the beneficiary of a court-ordered restitution fund. An asbestos lawsuit in Spokane, Washington resulted in a hefty restitution fund to be paid by two individuals and a corporation found guilty of criminally mishandling hazardous asbestos.

The restitution fund is meant to “repay” some of the damage caused by the crime committed, so in this case, the funds are earmarked to support asbestos awareness, education, and safety training. When considering which organization should receive these funds and put them to educational use, the Washington State attorney general’s office discovered ADAO.

That our lean, volunteer-fueled nonprofit was sought out and selected for this incredible gift is truly a testament to the hard work and accomplishments of everyone in our incredible ADAO community. Your passion, dedication, and capacity make a difference, and people notice.

With 60% of the award, ADAO will partner with the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency (SRCAA) to develop and implement a multifaceted educational campaign, which will be designed under guidance from ADAO’s exemplary Science and Prevention Advisory Boards. The remaining 40% will support existing ADAO educational efforts.

Read more about the award in the press release, and give yourself a big pat on the back — your work and dedication got us here!

Keep up the WONDERFUL work — we are making change happen! As ADAO says, “Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention.”
