ALBANY, N.Y. – Coming off a 0-0 tie at Rhode Island, University at Albany men's soccer faces 2013 NEC Champion St. Francis Brooklyn (4-4-1) on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The home game against the Terriers precedes UAlbany's first conference game of 2014 against Vermont on Saturday.

The Purple & Gold posted a 0-1-1 record last week, falling to Lafayette 1-0 in double overtime in addition to a 0-0 tie at Rhode Island. UAlbany has been shut out in three of its last four games.

DOUBLE OVERTIME DANES

Only one team in Division I has seen more double overtime than the Great Danes this season. UAlbany's 0-0 double overtime tie on Saturday was the team's sixth double overtime game of 2014. Only UC Davis has seen more double overtime action, tallying eight 2OT games.

Trevor Gorman's squad has played over one game's worth of extra minutes in those overtime periods.

ROOKIE MAGIC

Through the first nine games, Afonso Pinheiro has tallied seven points, the most for a freshman since Pomare Te Anau in 2011. Pinheiro is the first true freshman to score three goals in the first nine games in Gorman's tenure.

Pinheiro along with Jake Barros and first-year Great Dane Pedro Espindola have combined for 15 points this season, the most for any first-year trio since Trevor Gorman became head coach.

UAlbany and St. Francis Brooklyn are meeting for the third time in the Division I ranks, with the Great Danes holding a 2-0 advantage in the series. The teams have met all three times in Albany.

The Terriers started their season on a four-game losing streak, including losses to America East's UMass Lowell (Sept. 5, 3-1) and Vermont (Sept. 7, 2-1). After a 2-2 double overtime tie against Lafayette on the road, St. Francis Brooklyn has since won four straight. Tom Giovatto's squad has yet to concede a goal in a win.

St. Francis Brooklyn is the second defending NEC champion to visit Bob Ford Field. Fairleigh Dickinson visited UAlbany with its league title in hand last season, but the Great Danes emerged victorious 2-1 in double overtime. UAlbany is undefeated at home against NEC opponents in the last four seasons.

John Makaya leads the Terriers on offense with five goals. The junior has scored two game-winners on the season and has notched at least one score in three of his last four appearances.
