New spoken word podcasts with Joelle Taylor

Listen in to our two brilliant new podcasts, featuring poet, memoirist, essayist, broadcaster and vocalist Salena Godden and award-winning poet, playwright and essayist Sabrina Mahfouz in conversation with spoken word artist and Creative Director of SLAMbassadors, Joelle Taylor. All three have recently featured in the BBC’s programme ‘We Belong Here’, presenting and discussing their work, and in our latest podcasts they take the conversation further.

Hear all about the current UK spoken word scene; the battle for cultural recognition; their experiences on the road; the intersection of fashion, immigrant and queer cultures; discussion about The Good Immigrant; and much more. You can also hear some poems: Salena Godden performs ‘Titanic’, available on her new spoken word album LIVEwire, which is available on CD and download from Nymphs & Thugs; And Sabrina reads her poem ‘Why I Can’t Marry You’ from her new book How You Might Know Me, out now with Outspoken Press.

Upcoming events

You can catch all three artists at events coming up this week, and tickets are still available:

The Outspoken launch event for Sabrina’s new book is on 26 October in Camden, London – and both Sabrina and Salena will be reading. Don’t miss it!

Joelle will be perfoming at the SLAMbassadors National Final on 30 October at the 100 Club on Oxford Street in London, with Lemn Sissay and the winners of the latest SLAMbassadors national youth slam.
