A Counter-Intuitive, Powerful Formula for Change Leadership, Innovation and Success in Disruptive Times

The writing is on the walls of our lives, our businesses, our organizations and our society; smart and fast are no longer enough.  The best and brightest among us are stymied by a velocity of change, challenges, hyper-competition and ambiquity that is unprecedented in human history.  What does it take to get ahead and stay ahead in a VUCA sea of volatility, uncertainty, change and ambiquity?  A whole new mindset that beings with the language we use, the words we ascribe to personal, organizational and business initiatives that are supposed to be making us smarter, faster and stronger, but more often than not miss the mark.  Managing change is an oxymoron; leading change that sticks and grows is the way forward.

A whole new world demands a whole new mindset, a mindset that is simple, practical and can help people and teams, individuals and groups make the critical shift from now to how; the critical shift from what we have done and learned to all that we are capable of learning/relearning, creating and accomplishing.

Hope lies in the hearts and minds of those who can see past the sea of negativity and volatility, courage lies in the tenacity of smart people, values driven people who recognize that we ARE NOT living in the worst of times.  We are living in a time of unprecedented change, a shifting sea where those who survive and thrive will be pioneers who learn to adapt, pioneers who develop the emotional and cognitive dexterity they need (Q1 and Q2 skills (IQ-EQ) while enfranchising and holding on to that which will never change, that which cannot be change because it is the anchor for our individual, organizational and collective health, welfare, success and prosperity Q3-the values and integrity of purpose, communication and execution; the intrinsic motivators that take us forward when times are tough.

What can one woman with a 25 year history of not only great success, but equally great challenges tell you about leading change?  Why have I dedicated my life and my work to helping smart, fast, forward thinking people and organizations develop a new relationship with change, challenges and stressors? I have dedicated my life and work to helping as many people and organizations as I can build their 3Q Edge because the fabric of our greatest human potential is at risk; our ability to light and stoke the fire of human passion, purpose, potential, ingenuity and collaboration means seeing both our strengths and challenges with NEW eyes that take us forward faster, stronger and better than before. Managing change is an oxymoron; leading change that drives our best selves, best work, best collaboration, best results and resiliency is the way forward!

What can be gained by not simply playing to your strengths but learning to transform changes, challenges, stressors (even failures) into a lever for your greatest potential and results?  Think about the question.  Reflect upon YOUR ability and the ability of those you lead and serve to make a critical perceptual shift that can change YOUR life, YOUR organization YOUR ability to survive and thrive at the speed of change.   Will you do as you have always done?  Will what you have done in the past take you forward in the future?

I challenge you to reflect upon YOUR power to recognize your strengths, play to your strengths while also learning to transform changes, challenges, stressors (even failures) into a lever for three critical Q strengths that GROW at the speed of change.

Change always starts with you - and that look in the mirror or what I call a 'sober self-assessment' which might require the personal courage to solicit feedback (as many people have struggles with their inner dialogue). Submission to a (successful) mentor - who has your trust (and is trustworthy as well as wise and experienced) will also help provide that framework of support you may find helpful in making, recommending or initiating change. Fear is the biggest inhibitor! We fear rejection or even success... whatever is unfamiliar, the stretch beyond our comfort zone of what is familiar... but recognizing what holds us (or the team or the organization) back and mapping a strategy to go through that will reap huge benefits!

Thanks for the Great Post Irene. Managing change will result in stagnation. It sounds like someone in the middle holding things up. Leading change sounds like a group of people sharing a vision, collaborating, moving forwards towards innovation. "Managing change is an oxymoron; leading change that drives our best selves, , best work, best collaboration, best results and resiliency is the way forward! Thanks for that!
