About a hundred people turned out Tuesday night to pay tribute to a popular Orlando DJ killed on Monday morning.Jerry Smith Jr., better known as Disco Jr., was stabbed during an altercation inside Tier Nightclub in downtown Orlando.Many of the people who showed up Monday night held balloons and candles to show support for Disco Jr. and to reject the violence that took his life.Video: Local DJ 'Disco Jr.' stabbed to death in Tier Nightclub"To take a man's life take away, his family, take away everything that's going on over something futile is ridiculous," said Smith's friend Gregory Turner.With signs that read "gone but never forgotten," dozens crowded outside the Eatonville club where Smith got his start.Turner has known Smith for 20 years. He can't believe his friend is gone."I really couldn't believe it. Not him," Turner said. "In the DJ world, he was really like the number one DJ in the city."Orlando police said 35-year-old Gavin Brown stabbed Smith around 12:35 a.m. in the downtown Orlando club. Before Smith died police said he and club security identified Brown as the attacker.Video: Friends, family, fans mourn death of Orlando DJBrown appeared before a judge Tuesday morning on aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charges. On Wednesday, deputies charged Brown with first-degree murder. He is being held on no bond.Fans and friends sold T-shirts at the vigil to raise money for Smith's family. He leaves behind five young children, including two babies."I really would like for Orlando to come together and stop the violence," Turner said.Also in attendance was Commissioner Regina Hill, whose district includes downtown.For the second day in a row, WESH 2 News has reached out to Tier Nightclub for comment but they have not responded.Related: Florida mug shots
