Softball finishes as NCAA Statistics leader

Red Dragons lead Division III in double plays per game

In addition to having its greatest season in a decade, the SUNY Oneonta softball team also claimed an NCAA statistics plaque as a national leader in Division III.  The Red Dragons ended up leading all of Division III in double plays per game with 0.63 twin-killings per contest.  This is the fourth time in the program's history that they have led Division III in this statistical category and the first time since 1996.  The other two times that they claimed the honor was in 1992 and 1993.

The Red Dragons were also in the top-50 in earned run average and won-loss percentage.  Oneonta finished 48th in team ERA at 2.17, which was tops in the SUNYAC.  Their winning percentage of .732 was 33rd in Division III and also led the conference with its 30-11 record overall.

Individually, Oneonta had three players ranked amongst the top-50 in runs batted in per game, RBIs, saves, shutouts and victories.

Sophomore All-Region player, Traci Lichtenstein, was 27th in RBIs per game and 47 in total RBIs.  Lichtenstein finished with a single season best mark of 43 runs batted in, which led the SUNYAC this spring.

Freshman Sabrina DeAngelis (East Meadow/Kellenberg Memorial), who was the SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year, was 44th in shutouts and 35th in victories.  Her five shutouts and 18 wins this spring led the conference.

Junior Katie O'Flynn was 34th in Division III with three saves.

The Red Dragons won the SUNYAC championship this spring and played in the NCAA tournament.
