Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seniors Power Hillcats Past Chaps, 4-1

WOLFFORTH, Texas – Led by four goals from its seniors, the Rogers State men's soccer team got back to its winning ways with a commanding 4-1 victory at Lubbock Christian Thursday afternoon.

Due to heavy rainfall and unplayable field conditions in Lubbock, the game was moved to Frenship High School, where senior Dylan Beaird made himself right at home. He returned to form scoring twice, including the game winner, helping RSU snap a three-game skid.

Lars Lindtner used his speed to get the Hillcats on the board in the 12th minute. He took a through pass from Danko Kenjic and slipped a shot behind LCU keeper Tristen Putnam giving RSU a 1-0 lead.

The advantage doubled in the 30th minute as Beaird struck for his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The senior from Tulsa, Oklahoma collected Billy Cundall's long ball and bested Putnam in a one-on-one battle as the Hillcats took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Chaps quickly cut into the deficit in the second half getting on the scoreboard in the 47th minute, but Beaird again came through for the navy and red as RSU regained its two-goal edge. Goalkeeper Cody Gammill started the play with a booming kick that got behind the LCU defense springing Beaird free for his second goal of the match in the 53rd minute.

Timothy Nuckols added an insurance marker in the 77th minute heading in a Niall Masterson corner kick as the Hillcats picked up the conference road win, 4-1.

Gammill played all but the final five minutes allowing just one goal while making five saves to earn the victory before Mitchell Penton closed out the match. Putnam made six saves for the Chaps, but allowed two goals in each half suffering the loss.

The Hillcats (6-4-1, 1-2 HC) close the conference road trip Saturday in Odessa, Texas facing Texas-Permian Basin at 12 p.m.
