RAMAPO WINS TWO GAMES AT BOBCATS INVITATIONAL

Fayetteville, NC:  The Ramapo College baseball team opened up the 2015 season with two wins at the Bobcats Invitational. On Friday night the Roadrunners shutout the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (0-1), 10-0, while on Saturday afternoon they defeated Saint Joseph's College of Maine (1-5), 4-2.

On Friday night, senior starting pitcher Walker Larson (1-0) struck out eight over 6.2 innings of work earning a combined shutout. Sophomore Tyler Curto came in for relief in the final 2.1 innings as he struck out five and walked none. Senior Chris Werr led the team at the plate as he went 4-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. Senior Scott Peschiani collected two hits on three at-bats with four runs scored. The Roadrunners scored three runs each in the first and third innings while they scored two runs each in the fourth and eight innings on their way to a 10-0 win.

On Saturday, Ramapo senior starting pitcher Tom Portesy (1-0) struck out 14 over eight innings of work while he only surrendered six hits in the 4-2 win. Senior Mark Doyle earned his first save of the season as he struck out one and did not surrender a hit in the ninth inning.

The Roadrunners scored first in the fourth inning with one run as junior Scott Paulus drove home Peschiani with an RBI single to right field to take a 1-0 lead they would not surrender.  In the fifth inning, junior Rafael Dela Cruz and senior Brandon Berger hit back-to-back singles with one out before they both scored on a throwing error. Werr then laced a single bringing home Peschiani for a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, St. Joseph's Maine scored two runs on two hits to come within two, 2-4. Portesy and Doyle would make sure the score stayed in the final four innings, as the Roadrunners came away with their second victory of the season.

Ramapo returns to action at the Bobcats Invitational tomorrow March 1st at 9am when they take on Saint Joseph's Maine before facing Frostburg State at 4pm.
