If Rush fans needed any more affirmation that the “high priests of conceptual metal” were in the midst of a revival, the army of familiar faces gallantly lip-syncing their songs during their recent North American tour should do it. During the R40 Live tour – which has been made into a concert film – a number of superfans from the worlds of film and music pledged their allegiance to the Canadian rock trio on a screen behind the band, including the actor and director Jay Baruchel, Primus’s Les Claypool, Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith and actors Jason Segel and Paul Rudd. It’s sort of like a Taylor Swift concert, only with more experimental facial hair.
The Rush R40 Live concert film will be released on 20 November, but before then, here is a clip of Roll the Bones, which is a song from their 14th studio album, originally released in 1991. The R40 Live version was recorded in the band’s hometown of Toronto during the sold out shows at the Air Canada Centre. It was the first time the band put the song in their setlist since their 2007 Snakes & Arrows tour.
