Protest rallies were taken out against statements of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in different areas of Balochistan on Thursday, the Nation newspaper reported.

Protest rallies were taken out in Dera Bugti, Sibi, Dhadar, Dera Murad Jamali, Bela and other areas of the province.

The report added that people from different walks including the Hindu community participated in rallies and chanted slogans against Modi. “The enraged citizens also set Modi’s statue ablaze.”

The protestors asked the Indian prime minister to immediately stop interference in Pakistan’s and especially in Balochistan’s internal affairs.

They advised him that instead of interfering in our internal affairs, he should focus on improving the plight of his own countrymen.

Hindustan Times reported that Balochistan’s Chief minister Sanaullah Zehri accused New Delhi of fomenting terror in the region, stoking fears that bilateral ties could worsen in the coming days.

“Thursday’s protests in Balochistan were held in all major towns of the province. Chief Minister Zehri said the demonstrations and rallies were evidence that Balochistan’s people did not like what Modi had said about rights violations in the province.”

Zehri said the Kashmir and Balochistan issues were entirely different as people of his province were in favour of Pakistan while people in Kashmir were resisting “state-sponsored oppression”.

Meanwhile, in Baltistan, civil society members and students organised a massive protest rally on Friday to exhibit solidarity with the people of Kashmiri, reports said.

Radio Pakistan reported that in Skardu, a large number of people joined a rally against the statements of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the juma prayers.

“People were chanting anti-Indian slogans and burnt an effigy of Indian Prime Minister.”
