Amanda Klimczak Named Honorary Hawk for the Day

HAMBURG, N.Y. - Earlier this week, Special Olympian Amanda Klimczak attended a women's soccer practice and worked out with the team.  The Hawks did conditioning drills and played team handball with Amanda and there were lots of laughs and interesting conversations. Amanda talked about her experiences as a soccer and bowling competitor in addition to her experiences as a coach in the Special Olympics.  Amanda was full of energy and was eager to tell everyone about her success on the field, on the bowling alley hardwood and along the sidelines while coaching.

On game day, October 22nd, Amanda walked out with the Hawks team to midfield and slapped hands with each player as they were introduced prior to the start of the AMCC match.  Amanda stood with the team during the playing of the National Anthem and then joined the huddle along the sideline and encouraged them to victory.

Thanks in part to Professor Dan Roland's Business 200 class who assisted in the coordination of this opportunity, the women's soccer program has developed a relationship with this special person.  The Hawks would like to meet again in the spring when Amanda is coaching her team, and, together, they will host a soccer clinic for other Special Olympians.
