"Good Learning for Highly Able Learners"

This event will look closely at the learning processes of high ability learners. How do they learn when they are deeply engaged? How is their learning the same and different from that of other children their age? What features of their learning can be adjusted to respond to their strengths?
This session will include a bit of theory and introduce parents to the "Guide for Selecting Differentiation Strategies". At this session, participants will use a chart to help match different types of learning experiences to student strengths and explore a website loaded with resources to help parents and teachers support extraordinary potentials.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Lannie Kanevsky is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University in BC. She is the author of the Tool Kit for High End Curriculum Differentiation used widely by educators. Her work explores the learning preferences and potentials of gifted students and their peers, with the goal of offering students powerful learning experiences that are challenging and engaging. Lannie has shared her work through workshops, lectures and publications with local, national and international audiences across North America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
This session is free of charge and open to all interested parents from Westmount Charter School, CBE GATE Program, New Horizons, and home school groups.
