UK Gov’t Lifts Travel Restrictions To Uganda

The United Kingdom Government has loosened its travel restrictions to Uganda saying that its Citizens can now move freely around the East African nation.

“We have reduced our travel advice to the lowest level. This means we no longer have restrictions on travel to any part of Uganda,” British officials said.

This clearance is contained in a statement on the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth office website

They also added that Karamoja region where the world famous Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the areas that is to benefit from the new advisory.

Previously, the British government advised its citizens coming to Uganda to avoid trips to most parts Northern Uganda, and for those visiting national parks to stay away from road trips citing insecurity.

Kidepo has been rated by CNN, among other international organizations, as one of the must visit parks for 2017.

The new development has been hailed the Ugandan tourism industry.

“This is very significant progress for the tourism industry which has often grieved from unfair advisories, we are now looking forward to more UK citizens coming to Uganda” says Stephen Asiimwe, the CEO of Uganda Tourism Board.

On 6th October 2017, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni hosted about 100 international financiers and conservationists for the Giants Club Conservation and Tourism Investment Forum.

The forum was meeting to promote tourism investments in different parts of Uganda including Kidepo Valley National Park.

Among the guests were UK’s former Chancellor of Exchequer Rt. Hon George Osborne, who is also a member of Conservative Party.
