Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls to Drew

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — In a pivotal league matchup with visiting Drew, the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net against the Rangers. Eduardo Martinez scored the lone goal of the game in the second half to set back the Blue Jays.

Andrew Sandridge delivered Elizabethtown's (7-5-2, 3-3-1 Landmark) first opportunity at breaking the scoreless tie in the 21st minute. The senior got into the box and unleashed a shot that Drew (8-5-5, 4-2-1 Landmark) goalie Michael Reyes got his fingertips on. The deflection then caromed off the left post and away from goal.

David Boretti and Jamison MacMain both had chances about a minute apart, but Reyes was able to keep both shots out of the goal.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Rangers were able to pull ahead of E-town in the 55th minute. On a set piece, the ball was served in and goalie Justin Signora came off his line to punch the ball out of the box. It was then sent back into the box, where Martinez flicked the ball onto goal, taking a deflection on its way in for his second of the season.

As they proved in this past Wednesday's comeback against Goucher, the Blue Jays continued to press for a game-tying goal. Eric Borkowicz headed on a corner kick from Kyle Fowler, and the senior's header glanced off the crossbar and fell to Martin Fevre. His rebound attempt was saved by Reyes.

Moments later, Fevre had another chance to tie the game, but again Reyes was there for the stop.

Kristopher Davis had what turned out to be the Jays' final chance to knot up the game in the 81st minute, but his header on goal was grabbed by Reyes.

The men's soccer team faces a must-win game at Scranton on Saturday, November 1. The Blue Jays are currently in a four-way tie for fourth place in the Landmark with playoffs looming. Saturday's game will kick off at 1 p.m.
