Our Community Reads promoted by the

Ocean City Free Public Library

 

This is a great opportunity for everyone in Ocean City to read the same book and have a shared dialogue.  It is certain to enrich the lives of those who participate.

    

The first book chosen for "OC Reads" is:
 
"Shadow Divers"
by Robert Kurson, John Chatterton, and Rickie Kohler 
 
We believe this book will be immensely enjoyed by all, students to seniors.

The popular TED Talks continue this Saturday with Janine Shepherd, a promising cross-country skier who was hit by a truck during a training bike ride, discussing 
"A broken body isn't a broken person." 
 
A powerful story about the human potential for recovery, Janine shows you are not your body, and giving up old dreams can allow new ones to soar.   
 
 

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, and the TED talks feature experts in a variety of fields who present unique ways of looking at their respective fields of expertise.

Ocean City summer-long resident and science fiction author, Kieran Shea, will host an evening discussion outlining his journey on securing a multi-book deal and the pitfalls and practicalities of getting one's work published. 

 

From finding a literary agent to developing and sticking with solid work habits, Kieran's journey has been quite the wild and unexpected ride. 

 

Kieran will also be reading from his debut novel KOKO TAKES A HOLIDAY published this past June by Titan Books.

England with long hair and a crazy name made their U.S. debut performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show".

 

 
Things haven't been the same since.

 

Join us at the Ocean City Free Public Library Wednesdays, August 6th, 13th & 20th to celebrate the legacy of one of the most influential forces of the 1960's.

 

With videos, music samples, and discussions we'll see how The Beatles transformed rock and roll with their fresh approach to songwriting, instrumentation, fashion, design and social consciousness.

You don't have to be an artist to make colorful one-of-a-kind canvas floor cloths using techniques dating back to colonial times. During this hands-on program, you'll use stencils and rubber stamps to create your own personal designs on canvas, while learning the history of these beautiful, hand-made carpets.

August 13 - Dee Smith will show kids grades 4-8 how to make their own soap.  Program is at 10:00 am in Room 111.   Limited seating.  Sign up by Aug.6.
