Sturla Gunnarsson’s India-set documentary Monsoon (pictured) will open Toronto’s 15th annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival next month, with Andrew Nisker’s chewing gum doc Dark Side of the Chew closing the event.

Monsoon – which received its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September – details the diverse experiences of the annual monsoon around India, and will open Planet in Focus on November 6.

On November 9, Nisker’s Dark Side of the Chew, which examines how chewing gum impacts our culture, environment and personal health, will close out the festival.

Dark Side of the Chew will be preceded by a reception and salon for the festival’s “Eco-Heroes” – an honor that recognizes artists whose work furthers environmental issues – which includes an interview with the 2014 recipients, filmmaker and activist Rob Stewart and author and activist Tzeporah Berman.

That evening, Planet in Focus will also hold an awards ceremony where prizes will be distributed for best short film, Canadian feature, international feature and the winners of the Green Pitch and Green Screen Award.
