Dulwich’s FA Trophy Opponents on Saturday week are now known.

It took a replay and a 79th winner but at last Dulwich Hamlet are aware of who stands in their way on the path to FA Trophy pain or glory after Chalfont St Peter defeated AFC Hayes in a midweek rematch.

To some the Saints may be familiar faces, the paths of the two clubs having crossed in Chalfont’s days as Isthmian League club, most notably in the promotion season of 1991-1992 when a midweek win at Mill Meadow proved crucial in that campaign.
With the Saints struggling in the lower reaches of the Isthmian before eventually departing for the South Midlands Spartan League in 2006,

it seemed as if the twain would never meet again but in 2007, the FA Cup brought them back together. At the time Chalfont were riding high in their league, Dulwich still finding their feet back in the Ryman South. Unsurprisingly it proved a tighter contest than some might have expected, Dulwich taking the lead through Shawn Beveney before Chalfont drew level with five minutes left on the clock. However, the fans were denied a return visit to Mill Meadow as Henry Darko set up Steve May for a last gasp winner. One feels memories are long in Buckinghamshire and the Saints may have the scent of revenge in their nostrils come Saturday 1st November when the tie is scheduled to be played.
