John Lautner-designed home in Malibu up for summer lease

The John Lautner-designed beach home in Malibu known as the Krause House is up for summer lease at $70,000 a month with a two-month minimum term.

The three-story Lautner, built in the early 1980s, sits along 57 feet of sandy coastline. Two-story floor-to-ceiling glass windows with angular dividers frame views of the ocean and give the one-of-a-kind house a distinctive appearance.

Inside, a circular staircase creates a sense of motion in the main living areas. Nontraditional and geometric shaped walls and built-ins add visual interest to the bright and light interiors.

The furnished rental has angled ceilings and limestone floors. The 4,136 square feet of living space include living and dining rooms, two fireplaces, a bar, a den, an office, three bedrooms and five bathrooms.

An outdoor shower and ocean-view spa are among features of the master suite.

Lautner, who died in 1994 at 83, designed many famed homes in the Los Angeles area including the futuristic Chemosphere House as well as the concrete-domed Elrod House in Palm Springs.

The property last sold in 2000 for $2.85 million, according to Multiple Listing Service details.

Irene Dazzan-Palmer and Sandro Dazzan are the leasing agents.
