Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers saw their 2015 season come to an end on Monday after a 4-2 loss to Southern Arkansas at the Great American Conference Championships in Enid, Oklahoma. Senior
Jace Melby went 2-4 with a homerun, his second of the tournament. GAC Freshman of the Year
John Franklin Matros went 7.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Justin Weigle singled to right center with one out and advanced to second on a groundout.
Reuben Miller doubled to the wall in right field, scoring Weigle from second.
Matros held SAU scoreless through the first three innings, retiring nine of 11 batters faced. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Matros gave up his second hit of the game, a misplayed single that turned into a two-base error and allowed SAU to tie the game 1-1. A wild pitch to the next batter allowed a Mulerider to score from third and give SAU a 2-1 lead after four innings.
The Tigers responded immediately in the top of the fifth when
Jace Melby led the inning off with a homerun to left. The solo shot was his second of the tournament and fourth homerun in in his post-season career with the Tigers.
Southern Arkansas scored runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to retake the lead.
Josh Reeves entered the game in relief with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to hold the Muleriders scoreless. The Tigers left runners in scoring position stranded in the seventh and ninth innings, falling by a final of 4-2.
Ouachita finishes the season with a record of of 25-17. They finished the regular season second in the GAC after being picked to finish sixth in the preseason.Â
