MONMOUTH, Ore. – According to an announcement Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Peyton Moon of Western Oregon University's soccer team was named as a member of the Capital One Academic All-District ® Team recognizing her performances athletically and in the classroom.

Moon, 5-foot-8 senior defender, was one of only four players within the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) to be named as part of the District 8 team joining Western Washington's Catherine Miles as well as Seattle Pacific's Shayla Page and Hannah Huesers.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America ® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America ® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Moon, who is a Business major, carries a G.P.A. of 3.73 and has appeared in all 17 games so far this season (starting 16) defensively for the Wolves. In her second year at WOU, Moon has handed out one assist and registered 10 total shots.

For her career, Moon has appeared in 31 games (starting 29) and tallied 15 total shots to go along with a pair of assists.
