'Magic Mike XXL' Gets Release Date, Promises 'Stuff You'd Never See Movie Ever Again'

A release date of July 3 2015 has been set for “Magic Mike XXL”, the sequel to Steven Soderbergh’s surprise male stripper hit. Meanwhile, Channing Tatum revealed a few details about the film, which he is co-writing, after receiving the Trailblazer Award (no, we’re not sure either) at Sunday’s MTV awards.

“We don’t want to make some dark drama” he told reporters. “There was some darkness in the last movie and I think it surprised people and shocked people. This one, we want to have a lot of conflict and a lot of struggle, but we also want there to be a shit ton of fun. A shit ton of ridiculous stuff that you would never see in a movie, on the face of the earth, ever again”.

With the film set to take the format of a road movie, Tatum may be referring to events that take place away from the stripping stage, but there can be no doubt that “Magic Mike XXL” will fully intend to beat its predecessor when it comes to the strip set pieces (and we’re also betting the McConaughey character is going to be even more bat shit crazy).

It will be interesting to see how this one turns out – the previous film was a bit of a slam dunk from nowhere, highly praised by critics and finding a huge summer audience, despite not appearing to set out with the intention of pandering to either. This time round, people will be expecting much more. And then there are those who will be expecting little more than Matt Bomer covered in baby oil.

Can it possibly please everyone? Either way, this is one production we’ll be keeping you updated on every step of the way.
