The lead story: Six police officers have been charged in relation to the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore. After riots raged last week, Baltimore’s mayor lifted a curfew on Sunday as a peaceful rally was held in front of Baltimore City Hall.

4,800 people, attempting to migrate from Libya to Italy, were rescued by the Italian coast guard in the Mediterranean. This comes shortly after 900 Libyans died in a similar attempt, and amid calls that the Italians step up their naval presence to save the lives of those attempting the dangerous voyage.

An unknown force has begun fighting the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The soldiers, who are loyal to the Yemeni government, may be Saudi troops, a charge the Saudi government denies.

Two gunmen opened fire on a community center in Texas and were killed by police. The community center was hosting a showing of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

China had its worst manufacturing output in a year during the month of April. This comes amid a general slowdown in the Chinese economy this year.

Ethiopian Israelis took to the streets in Tel Aviv to protest police brutality in their communities. These protests turned violent as protesters clashed with police.

Ed Miliband, once considered too weak, is now poised to become Britain’s next prime minister. If elected, the Labour Party leader would replace current Conservative PM David Cameron.
