WICKER PARK — A massage franchise that has several locations in the suburbs and five outposts in the city is opening its sixth Chicago location in a shopping mall along a busy stretch of Damen Avenue in Wicker Park.

Founded in 2009, Massage Envy Spa offers body massages and skin facials and has city locations currently in the West Loop, Streeterville, Lakeview and Lincoln Park.

The new Massage Envy Spa, 1520 N. Damen Ave., replaces a shuttered dry cleaners and is located inside of a mall that counts a Lou Malnati's pizza takeout, PNC bank, Pinky Nail and 7-Eleven among the tenants.

Massage Envy's Wicker Park spa will be owned by  Joe Davis, who also owns Massage Envy spas in Lincoln Park at 801 W. Diversey Parkway and in Lakeview at 3718 N. Southport Ave.

The new Wicker Park spa is hoping to open in September.

Davis said the spa will bring 40 to 50 jobs to the neighborhood and have 16 treatment rooms.

The Massage Envy Spa website describes the spa's mission as, "to provide a pathway to wellness through professional, convenient and affordable massage therapy and spa services."

A sign in the window of the the new spa announces, "Countdown to massages, facials and more."

Beginning at $49.99 per treatment for new clients, the spa offers several types of body massages in one- hour, 90-minute and two-hour sessions as well as a sugar foot scrub therapy, which can be added to any massage for $10, according to the Massage Envy website.

"My wife and I are big fans of the Bucktown, Wicker Park area," said Davis. "We love the neighborhood and are happy to be in there, just a cool place to be."

A Yelp.com reviewer named Lindsey W., who visited the Southport Massage Envy Spa, praised a masseuse therapist named Valerie, who used "heat, pressure points and range of motion techniques rather than just a rub down."

"I won't lie when I say it was not a relaxation massage. It was a little uncomfortable at times but in a positive way because I knew she was getting at the places that were so messed up. I spent the entire 60 min on my stomach and eventually I even fell asleep," Lindsey W. wrote.
