Police rescue man from house fire, Kowanyama

Late last night a police officer rescued a man from a house fire at Kowanyama.

Around 11.45pm police and volunteer fire fighters were called to the Kowanyama Street residence to find the home well alight.

At the time of the fire there were three people in the home with two women, 61 and 26, able to escape the blaze.

The third, a 64-year-old man, was rescued by the officer after he entered the home to find the unconscious man on the lounge room floor.

The man was treated for smoke inhalation.

No one else was injured.

The home was not able to be saved.

The scene is currently being guarded with investigations into the cause of the fire to continue today.
