We have had an incredibly busy, productive summer. We've launched new products and new apps, and we're organizing our first CityLife® Civic Hacking Day in collaboration with Seedworthy's Scott Maloney and Leverage Legal's Jessica Eaves Mathews slated for August 9, 2014 Here is the latest news about What's APPening® at APPCityLife, and, as always, hank you for being a part of our community

NYC FAQ app

If you haven't visited our collection of apps on the App Store recently, you'll find several new apps available for download, including submitted and soon to be released NYC FAQ app. Built on New York City's open data, this app provides fingertip access to over 6,000 city agencies and services and aggregated answers to the more than 190 million calls. We've entered the NYC FAQ app into the NYC BigApps competition held on July 19, 2014, where it will be shared with hundreds of competitors, judges and civic administrators. The Android version is under development and will be released soon.

National Open Data App

Our National Open Data app is almost ready and will be submitted to the App Store this month. Serving up easily accessible information about 23 initial cities in the United States and Canada, the app is the foundation for our Open Data Server which will enable our team to easily consume data from cities across the globe to be displayed within this single app. We expect to be first to market in the world with this type of app and will begin immediately collecting analytics on usage throughout each city. We are proud of our team's efforts and creative innovation that went into the design of this app and know you will be, too.
Have you downloaded the CultureABQ app, an umbrella app featuring all of the apps developed by the Cultural Services Department within the City of Albuquerque? The app also features the ABQ RIDE app to help visitors navigate the city's transit system while planning their visits to locations such as the BioPark, the Balloon Museum and more. The app can be downloaded here.

Cities Summit

Our CEO, Lisa Abeyta, was invited to be the guest of London Mayor Boris Johnson, at the exclusive, by invitation only, Cities Summit. Included because of our work with CityMart, the event brought together civic leaders from across Europe, Africa and the United States as well as major influencers such as Bloomberg Philanthropies and innovators in this space like APPCityLife.

New Cities Summit

APPCityLife was invited to send two team members to the global conference on urban innovation, the New Cities Summit, which was held in Dallas, Texas. 35 Countries were represented at the three-day event, hosted by the New Cities Foundation.

Corporate Update

Team News

APPCityLife's office has been a thriving environment over the summer months, with our entire team of college students choosing to work longer hours to help move our technology and products forward. We had one team member move on and another step into a more integral role. Nyika Allen, who helped with operations and business development, is now pursuing other interests, and we wish her well with her new projects. We are extremely pleased to announce that Victoria Dobbin, who started with us part time as a graphic designer, is now working with us full time and managing the app development projects as well as producing many of the graphics you see here in this update as well as all artwork used in our apps. Our CEO, Lisa Abeyta, was profiled by Sharp Heels, which was founded by the NYC-based Kelly Hoey, founder of Women Innovate Mobile.

APPCityLife Welcomes New Client, Santa Fe, NM

APPCityLife welcomes a third transit client, the City of Santa Fe, and work has already begun on a dynamic transit app to serve public transit commuters in the City Different. The City of Santa Fe will work with APPCityLife to develop a transit app with real time tracking, a trip planner, schedule, and targeted push notices for each route. The app will include local coupons as well.

APPCityLife Community Involvement

APPCityLife's COO, Lawrence Abeyta, was a mentor for the recent Startup Weekend Albuquerque as well as a guest speaker at Albuquerque's National Civic Day of Hacking event and presented the APPCityLife publishing platform to attendees during an afternoon session. Our CEO, Lisa Abeyta, was asked to sit on the Congressional Small Business Advisory Council for New Mexico's Senator Michelle Grisham. She was a guest speaker for the recent Startup Weekend Albuquerque and will also serve as a mentor for the weeklong Teen Entrepeneurship Camp at Bosque Preparatory School as well as for first class of startup teams beginning soon at the new ABQid Accelerator. APPCityLife once again hosted a stellar group of women innovators, educators and investors during the NGN Day Panel Discussion. APPCityLife will host its first Civic Hackathon on August 9, introducing the platform for the first time to outside developers. The event will also feature Seedworthy's Scott Maloney and Leverage Legal's Jessica Eaves Mathews, giving attendees access to tools and information about how to launch a business and earn revenue as a civic hacker.

Going Global

APPCityLife was invited to present a showcase of civic work to the global nonprofit group, CityMart, and was selected as one of three finalists from across the globe for a civic app project in Spain. Because of the successful work and cost savings we've delivered to our current clients, we've been asked to bid on additional projects managed by the CityMart team.

New Features for ABQ RIDE, ABQ BioPark and APS

Our clients are busy creating new features which can easily be replicated to other civic apps, including in-app 311 reporting in ABQ RIDE, add-to-calendar support within the APS app, and an innovative interactive iBeacon feature is being implemented in the ABQ BioPark app. You can also expect to see a brand new library app as well as a new app for the Albuquerque Museum in the near future.
Javier Chavez demonstrates the power of our new Open Data Server to our team. The Open Data Server allows APPCityLife's platform to easily consume open data from cities, converting and normalizing the information into usable mobile formats.
