Bucks Food Calendar: April 23, 2014

Wine pairing dinner

Shad Fest 2014 poster Jeff CharlesworthMy head is spinning. There is so much going on this week in Bucks and nearby that I don’t know where to begin. Let’s do it day by day. Here are my “picks.”

Tonight. Honey, in Doylestown, is hosting a charity dinner for the Animal Lifeline organization, which provides animal rescue and transport, disaster response, shelter and rescue rehabilitation, and more. It’s an eight course shared vegetarian tasting, $150 per couple and all the food sales will go to Animal Lifeline. Also, Doylestown Restaurant Week and Newtown Restaurant Week are still in full swing.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 24.  Caleb’s American Kitchen presents its first Friend of a Farmer Dinner, offering seasonal produce and livestock from local farms. The prix fixe dinners are $40/person on Thursday nights and $45/person on Friday nights (tax and gratuity not included). Reservations are required. The dinners will take place twice a month starting in April and through October 2014. Reach them at 215.794.8588.

Ottsville Farmers MarketFriday, April 25. The Ottsville Farmers’ Market opens for the season Friday afternoon from 4 – 7 pm. Twenty plus vendors will be at the market this year, with guest vendors throughout the summer. One of the new vendors is Ironstone Creamery, a local dairy farm in Riegelsville, primarily offering cheeses, yogurts and butter from their grass fed cows. For more information about all of the market’s happenings, see their Facebook page.

Saturday, April 26. In Quakertown, McCoole’s presents their semi-annual Beerfest. Look too for their first annual Whisky, Wine, & Homebrew Festival on May 3. Shad Fest 2014 is also this weekend, as is A-Day at Del Val College. Right now the weather looks good for both days!

Free will brewings bottlesSunday, April 27 – more beer. With the explosion in craft beers and home brewing comes festivals galore. Fermented Productions in conjunction with the Doylestown Fire Company No. 1, has organized Fare: Food, Wine, Beer & Provisions Festival. There will be craft beer, small batch spirits, local wines, and food from some of the best restaurants in the Philadelphia area at The Fuge in Warminster. Tickets are $70 per person. A portion of the proceeds to benefit the fire department. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

You can also see a beer brewing demonstration this Sunday, at Pennsbury Manor in Morrisville. In the Kitchen House, while they are making beer, the brewers will discuss the process of making beer and ale in early Pennsylvania. You can also walk through Penns’ Kitchen Garden. See their website for more information.

Tuesday, April 29. Spring in Provence, a special 10-course dinner at Brian’s in Lambertville sold out for their first night, on Monday, so they have added a second night for this special event. The dinner is $85 per person. Call for reservations at 609.460.4148. (Note: Brian’s is cash only and BYOB.)

Wine pairing dinnerNon Solo Pasta Ristorante is hosting a wine dinner on Tuesday evening as well. The Morrisville restaurant is preparing a seven course meal that looks divine. Here’s a taste: Variazioni di Formaggi Freschi (fresh cheeses), Orecchiette con  Broccoli, Stuffed Eggplant, Roasted Lamb, Charcuterie and  Aged Cheeses, and dessert. Cost is $65 per person. Call them at 215.736.0750 to reserve your seat.
