Blake, Rafferty Net NABC Academic Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
A pair of Cabrini men's basketball players were among the record 895 student-athletes from 335 colleges and universities named to the 2013-14 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, the organization announced today.  Recent graduate Fran Rafferty and senior Howard Blake III earned the honor for their performances in the classroom.  

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior on the varsity men's basketball team and have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year.

This marks the second such honor for Rafferty, who recently completed his degree in Accounting.  Rafferty was named to the All-Region Second Team by both the NABC and D3hoops.com following the 2013-14 campaign, as well as earning All-CSAC First Team accolades.  Rafferty posted 14.3 points per game, while connecting on more than 45% of this three point attempts.  Rafferty closed his career fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,403 points.

Blake, a communication major, averaged 1.6 points in 16 appearances in 2013-14.  The senior posted a season high seven points in just eight minutes in a win over Baptist Bible College.

The Cabrini men's basketball team won its 5th consecutive CSAC title and 13th overall, defeating Neumann University 96-79.  The Cavaliers opened the season with 20 consecutive victories before ending the season 26-2. Cabrini ranked in the D3hoops.com top 20 all season, reaching as high as No. 2 and closed the season ranked No. 9.
