Students Express: share your spoken word videos

Young people and students: we’d like to see your spoken word videos on the theme of heat

Here at Guardian Students, we aim to provide a platform for a wide range of student and young voices. Students use our Blogging Students section to talk about everything from school feminist societies to spiked drinks.

But we know that not all young people are writers by nature. While you may have plenty to say, you might not want to express it through carefully crafted blogs. That’s why we’ve launched Students Express – a new way for you to showcase your work on the Guardian. We’ll be inviting submissions around a variety of themes and plan to compile some of the best ones into galleries and articles on the Guardian site.

This week, we’re asking you to submit your spoken word videos. With today being the hottest day of the year, why not show us your performances on the theme of “heat”?

What we’re looking for

  • Spoken word videos on the theme of “heat”. You could also send in a written poem or extract. Interpret the word as you like; maybe you’re inspired to write about the weather, your emotions, politics, or something else; anything goes.
  • Poetry, spoken word and creative writing that doesn’t fit the theme and not by young people and students will also be approved.

If you need some inspiration here are some of the videos we received on GuardianWitness last time we ran a spoken word assignment:

How to submit your work

Submit your work through GuardianWitness – it’s really straightforward. You can share your work by clicking on the blue “Contribute” button on this article. You can also use the GuardianWitness smartphone app or the Guardian app and search for “GuardianWitness assignments”.
