No shortage of offense for Macks Creek

Jason Trusty Macks Creek Baseball Coach

Macks Creek used a 13-run fourth inning to turn a 6-1 lead into a 19-1 win in five innings over the Stover Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The win snaps a three-game skid for the squad.

The Pirates scored two in the first. Chandler Charlton singled and moved to third on Matt Hicks’ misplayed ground ball to third. An error on Cameron Charlton’s soft line drive to second allowed Chandler to score and Hicks to move up to third. Austin Bryner then laid down a squeeze bunt to bring in the runner and move the score to 2-0. Stover collected their lone tally in the bottom of the second using two walks and two singles.

Macks Creek plated four more runs in the third. Tommie Willis was hit-by-a-pitch and stole second. With one out, Matt Hicks drove in Willis and moved to second on an error by the right fielder. Cameron Charlton then laced a bouncing ground ball over the head of the second baseman to plate Hicks. Austin Bryner was then beaned to put runners at second and third. Cameron would come into score when he stole third and the ball got by the third baseman. Bryner would advance to third in that sequence as well. Gage Mashburn then hit a ball to short that was bobbled and allow the runner to score for a 6-1 Pirate advantage.

The Pirates put the game away in the fourth. They sent 16 batters to the plate and plated 13 runs. Each spot in the lineup reached base and scored in the inning.

Highlights include Chandler Charlton’s two-RBI-double and brother Cameron Charlton’s three-run-homer. Macks Creek put two more runners on in the fifth but they would remain stranded. Stover had one more runner reach in the game before it ended via the run-rule.

Ben Lutz started and picked up the win. The Junior right-hander worked the first four innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one. Senior Tommie Willis worked the fifth inning and allowed one walk to go with two

Offensively Chandler Charlton and Matt Hicks each had three hits in four trips to the plate for the Pirates. Chandler scored three runs and collected four RBI’s while Hicks had two singles, a double, three RBI’s and four runs scored. Cameron Charlton collected an RBI-double, three-run homer, and four RBI’s to go with three runs scored, Tommie Willis had a single and three runs scored, Austin Bryner had three RBI’s, a single, and scored twice, and Jesse Linton singled in a run and scored. Gage Mashburn reached twice via the walk and scored once, Austin Zollman reached on an error and scored, and Chase Schmidt singled and scored in the contest as well.

Macks Creek improves to 2-3 with the win. They will travel to Humansville on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
