Women’s Basketball uses second-half comeback to give Louisiana College first loss of the season

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team overcame an 18-point deficit in the second half to beat previously undefeated Louisiana College 94-87 Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-2 on the season and 2-2 in American Southwest Conference play while the Wildcats fell to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

The Wildcats led by as many as 16 points in the first half before the Cru cut the lead to single digits with 6:26 left to play in the first. UMHB cut the lead to as few as six, trailing 52-43 at the half. Louisiana College extended that lead to 66-48 with 17:31 left in the second half before UMHB used a 15-2 run to cut the lead to five. The Cru grabbed its first lead of the contest at the 5:13 mark in the second half when Taylor Tucker hit a jumper to put UMHB ahead. The Wildcats tied the game once more but were unable to gain another lead as UMHB ended the game with a 14-7 run to earn the victory.
 
Alyssa Dean led the Cru with 27 points while Taylor Tucker added 18, Macy Moore had 13 and Haven Neal recorded 11. Tucker also led the Cru with 12 rebounds, followed by Dean with nine and Kourtney Bevers with seven. UMHB recorded eight blocks in the contest and out-rebounded the Wildcats 56-48. The Cru shot 40.8 percent as a team and 25 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Neka Jones led Louisiana College with 25 points, followed by Danisha Allison and Skylar Chenevert with 17 each. Allison led the Wildcats with 11 rebounds while Kaci Willis recorded five assists. UMHB forced the Wildcats into 22 turnovers while Louisiana College recorded 10 steals. The Wildcats shot 34.7 percent in the contest, 40.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.8 percent from the free throw line.

The Cru returns to action Monday, December 29th in a 6 p.m. game at Our Lady of the Lake University. UMHB returns to conference play on January 3rd, hosting LeTourneau University at 1 p.m. in the Mayborn Campus Center.
