The amazing Bear Grylls Survival Academy, designed by Bear Grylls himself, now lets anyone who wants to — who can afford the expense — take part in an exotic adventure of their own! Individuals, groups, families and children can all participate in an adventure and test out their own survival skills at the Bear Grylls Survival Academy.
Fans of adventurer and survivalist, Bear Grylls, know that he is back on TV with his new hit series on NBC, Running With Bear Grylls, Monday nights at 8:00 p.m ET/7:00 p.m. CT. On Monday, July 28, Grylls had Zac Efron on the premiere episode. Next Monday, it will be comedian Ben Stiller’s turn to journey with Bear Grylls to a wilderness locale either in the United States or around the world and spend 48 hours with him learning survival skills and having the adventure of a lifetime.
There are currently three different places in the United States where there is a Bear Grylls Survival Academy. There is the one located in the Catskills Mountains at the at the Frost Valley YMCA. The second one, the California course, takes intrepid adventurers from the Calvin Crest Conference Center at the Southern Entrance of Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The third one can be found at Glacier View Ranch in the Colorado Rockies. There are more in the U.K. and there is even one in Africa.
Though Bear Grylls designed the courses, they are operated by his personally trained team of survival experts. One more is scheduled to open in the U.S. in Texas in the near future. At all of the courses, the public can push their boundaries and experience adventures ranging from one that lasts 24 hours to some that last five days. One in Wales even allows for a half-day adventure.
There are a diverse array of possible adventures that are available through the Bear Grylls survival Academy, involving combinations of remote land/water survival and adventure tasks. Besides the 24-hour and five-day adventures for adults and families, there are also four-day courses and ones that are tailor made team building programs that can be booked by companies for their employees.
Among the skills and techniques that the survival experts teach during the courses are ones like fire lighting, knife skills, emergency shelter building, remote medical trauma techniques, rappelling, foraging for insects and grubs, river crossings, extreme weather survival and…Bear Grylls’ Gross Eat Challenge — YUCK!
Bear Grylls has demonstrated his survival skills under a wide variety of extreme conditions on his TV programs, like Man Vs. Wild. He will also be returning to the Discovery Channel with his new series, Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivor, though a date for its premiere has not yet been announced.
The slogan of the Bear Grylls Survival Academy is “it may hurt a little.” Grylls wanted there to be an opportunity for the general public to step away from the TV screen and into the outdoors.
