A variety of art experiences are planned for the March First Friday Art Walk in downtown Woodland. An outdoor video art installation, music, art exhibitions, and sugar and cake artistry will make for an inspiring art walk Friday.

The Ladies Soulful Trio will be performing as part of the monthly musical series Music on Main, produced by YoloArts in collaboration with the Historic Downtown Woodland Business Association and the City of Woodland. This free monthly concert and performance series is made possible by a grant from the California Arts Council. The Ladies Soulful Trio has performed together for 30 years.

“Since we were teenagers, in the Elk Grove community, we have played music together,” said lead vocalist Francesca Homan.

Starting out performing at Filipino cultural events, the trio is known for playing original songs, jazz and Brazilian music. The pianist for the group is Dee Pizzaro and Maria Louisa Paman plays the guitar. All three women sing, and vocalist Homan performs percussion such as tambourine. The Ladies Soulful Trio has performed extensively at jazz festivals, concerts, and night clubs in Northern California and Canada. They will be performing from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Barth Building, 423 First Street .

Remember When Emporium, 606 Main St., will be hosting Steve Homan, singing and playing acoustic jazz guitar. Homan holds adjunct teaching positions at CSU Sacramento, and at Consumnes and American River Colleges. He is the husband of Francesca. Steve has performed with numerous acclaimed jazz artists including Herb Ellis, Jimmy Smith, Ed Thigpen, and with The Nelson Riddle Concert Orchestra. He has also performed and conducted jazz workshops in twelve countries on the African continent. In 2010, Steve played jazz guitar on jazz drummer Mike Clark’s CD, “Carnival of Soul,” climbing to No. 8 on the international jazz charts. This performance is made possible through the YoloArts’ Music on Main performance series.

Nearby, at 610 Main St., the art glass works of Ron Enomoto will be on view in a continuing exhibition of fused glass objects. Enomoto will be on hand to explain the process he uses to create his art works.

Poppies Gallery, 510 Main St., will offer a showing of the drone and regular photography of Mark Jones who will have a drone on display to demonstrate how he uses it to capture the visual perspective from on high. The exhibition features Jones’ photography focusing on the bridges of Yolo County and other places.

Woodland Artist Kent Smith will be conducting an outdoor digital video installation on the west side of Corner Drug, 602 Main St. The art show will begin at sundown and is called “NASA, Hubble and Dancing Flowers.”

Mojo’s Lounge, 428 First St., will be hosting the art work of Amie Wallace, while next door at Kitchen 428 the photography of Kenny Calhoun will be displayed in a continuing exhibition.

“The Poetry of Dots” opens at Gallery 625, located at 625 Court St. This show is a mixed media exhibition exploring the way dots form connections to create a kind of visual poetry. A meet the artist reception begins at 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.

At 1059 Court St., meanwhile, Ya-Ya’s Furniture Consignment Shop will be exhibiting the art work of Esparto artist Claire Haag, whose art work is featured in YoloArts’ ArtFul Plate experience across the street at Maria’s Cantina. The experience and limited edition, collectible art plate bearing Haag’s painting “Tender Land” will be available for sale at the restaurant.

For those with a taste for the culinary arts, award winning cake designer and sugar artist Carol Saiki will be demonstrating her craft at Sweeties Café, 537B Main St. Known for her hand crafted sugar flowers, Saiki has won numerous awards for her wedding cake and cupcake designs.
