TV Article Scientology doc 'Going Clear' airing Sunday on HBO By Ariana Bacle Published on March 29, 2015 07:28PM EDT Photo: Sam Painter Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, a documentary about the Scientology organization, arrived in a handful of theaters on March 13, but now anyone with a HBO subscription can see it: The film airs on the network Sunday night. Alex Gibney directed the doc, which is based on Lawrence Wright’s 2013 book of a similar name: Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief. Neither the book nor the film portray the organization, which includes famous followers like actor Tom Cruise, in a positive light. “The film doesn’t necessarily ask you to go out and write a letter to the IRS or beckon stars to come forward,” HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins told EW earlier in March. “But I think [Gibney and Wright], having worked so hard and so long and so accurately on this, feel that something needs to be shaken.
